Happy New Year from the children and staff of Boys and Girls Homes of North Carolina!

Flemington Hall on the campus of Boys and Girls Homes of NC, blanketed by snow.Winter wonderland!  Everyone has been mesmerized by the recent winter storm that covered much of the south, including the Boys and Girls Homes campus.  Many of the children are still on their Christmas/New Year's break and haven't returned to campus.  Those who are on campus have been seen makingSnow blankets the campus of Boys and Girls Homes of NC trails through the snow and tossing a snowball or two!  The clouds are gone and while the snow and ice have caused a few power outages, bent trees, and broken a few limbs, the beauty of the ice shimmering on the trees and the snow covering everything is difficult to describe.  It is wonderful to experience the beauty of God's handiwork and artistic abilities.  In the picture at the top left, snow blankets the ground in front of Flemington Hall.  The picture on the bottom right shows the snow on the grounds and ice in the pecan trees on the boys campus.

Christmas  The children of Boys and Girls Homes were able to experience the joys of the Christmas season in many ways this year.  On December 17, a "family style" Christmas dinner was provided for all the children and members of the staff in the fellowship hall of the chapel.  Following dinner and a reading of the Christmas story by the children, Bill Thompson and Jay Brooks lead everyone in the singing of Christmas carols.  Gifts provided by Maola Milk Co. were presented to the children.  The children then returned to their cottages to open their Christmas presents that had so generously been provided by individuals and civic groups.  Members of the staff, along with that jolly elf Santa Clause, toured all the cottages to give out the presents and enjoy the children opening them!  Their excitement was so touching.  To experience their enthusiasm and see them receiving gifts, realizing the good of others is an awesome opportunity.  It would be great if all who gave to the children could be a part of the evening.  We appreciate the loving generosity of all who made Christmas for the children a possibility.

Chaplain Mason  We are delighted to welcome Mason Smith to Boys and Mason Smith, Chaplain for Boys and Girls Homes of NCGirls Homes.  Mason was recently employed to serve as Chaplain for Boys and Girls Homes.  Mason and wife Kim, (formerly Mauldin) will reside in the carriage house on campus.  They are anticipating the birth of their first child in March.  Mason is setting up office in the chapel, studying the campus and children, and establishing schedules and priorities.  He says he is amazed at the opportunities for serving the children and the interest he has already seen in the chapel program.  Pictured at left, Mason can be seen with the snow blanketed steeple of the chapel in the background.  To learn more about Mason, read the newspaper report published in The News Reporter, January 7, 2002.

Thanks  Boys and Girls Homes is very appreciative of the support given to the children and our efforts to assist them during the previous year.  We look forward to continuing our partnerships and making new friendships as we work to help the children we serve.
