Typical Boys Cottage

The children of Boys and Girls Homes live in cottages designed as much as possible to be like home.  The cottages have a living room, dining room, kitchen, bedrooms, game room, computer area, bathrooms, and laundry rooms much like a typical home.

Living Room  Each cottage has a living area where the children can lounge, watch TV, or entertain guests.

Dining Room The emphasis of the program of  care is family.  In the cottages, the children have family style meals.  They all gather around the table for meal time where they share food and experiences.  When guests such as visiting civic clubs come for a meal, the tables and chairs can be spread out to make for more seating.

Kitchen  Each cottage has a self-contained kitchen for preparing meals.  In some cottages, cooks are employed to prepare the food.  In the cottages where older children live, they and their teaching parents prepare the meals.  Of course one of the family chores at every meal is clean the dishes!

Bedroom  There are generally two to three beds in each bedroom.  The children  have room to store their clothes and other personal belongings here too.  Note the desk at the foot of the bed, a place where the children can have quiet study time.

Gameroom  The game area is one of the most popular rooms in the cottage.  Here, the children can relax by playing board games, electronic games, pool, etc.

Computer Room  Each cottage has an area where the children can use computers.
