| Optimist Cottage, built in 1968 by the North Carolina Optimists, was the last cottage for boys established at Boys and Girls Homes. Today it is home for eight children. The North Carolina Optimists continue to provide financial support for the operation of the cottage and encouragement to the children living in the cottage.
