Chairman's Report

Jerry Parrish

Jerry Parrish-B&GH Board of Directors ChairmanDetermining the value of an organization can be done in many ways. Some value can be attached to the physical plant: the building, equipment, and land. Some value can be attached to the quality of personnel. Some value can be attached to the amount of research or innovative work that is accomplished. But the real value of any organization is the result it produces.

In the case of Boys and Girls Homes, the product produced has been thousands of productive lives that would have otherwise been undeveloped or lost to society. Using those criteria, we can say that Boys and Girls Homes of North Carolina is one of the most valuable assets in this state.

That value is further enhanced by the prospects presented by Boys and Girls Homes which will impact future generations, the prospect of educating those children who have been deprived of a proper education. This involves the prospect of nurturing a respect of the rights of others even in the midst of diversity, the prospect of uniting families torn apart, the prospect of engendering an understanding of the role God plays in every life. These are all elements of Boys and Girls Homes that have been a part of the past and are now being expanded into the future.

In reviewing this year's annual report we can see how this has been and is being achieved. It is accomplished by incorporating all the aforementioned values: physical improvements, qualified personnel and innovative and effective programs of care.

All this is based on one, all-encompassing value: love for children and families. As we face the challenges of providing those necessary temporal components of our program, we can never lose sight of the one element that is not only the basis of our founding and the cause of our current existence but it is the reason for our future. Children deserve to be loved.

As evidenced by this report, we have accomplished much but there is much yet to do.
